Writing to Russian women

When writing to a woman from Eastern Europe take into consideration that even when she claims she 'knows' English (or another language), more often than not she has little more than a rudimentary grasp of that language. Her knowledge consists of laboring over a dictionary to make sense of what you say, and to compose an answer to you.
A fair thing to do before you commence correspondence with any Russian woman is to imagine yourself in her shoes. Imagine struggling with an unfamiliar language, at the same time desperate to make a good impression on that person who could become a lifelong partner.
Consider how easy or difficult it would be for you to compose and answer letters in Russian and you gain some insight of just how tough it is for her. Be considerate, be patient, kind and understanding, as whatever effort you put into your correspondence will be minimal compared with her efforts.
Make you letters interesting and informative. At the same time ask questions in such a way to learn what you wish to know about her and her background.
Here are some hints that may help you with your correspondence and thus bring you success with meeting your Russian bride:

·    As the women to whom you write generally are not familiar with English, they may have their first few letters translated professionally. This costs them. Then they pay to have their answer to you translated from Russian to English for your benefit. Again, costs they can ill-afford.
·    Eastern European women have little money to spare and translation costs take precious savings. They pay by word or page, so write simply, accurately, economically.
·    Be sparing with words, at least until the woman you write to gains sufficient confidence to replace translators with her own hard toil and a dictionary. One or two pages is sufficient in the first instance.
·    An alternative, warmly welcomed by any woman, is to offer to pay for translations. This serves three purposes. It takes pressure off her need to reply with the economics of her letter in mind, it shows you are a thoughtful and attentive man, and most importantly it shows that you are interested. These are traits that go a long way with impressing an Eastern European women.
·    Whatever language you use, do not use colloquialisms. Do not use terms used only in your country. Words that you use must appear in her English-Russian dictionary or French-Russian dictionary etc.
·    Use simple, precise words with a clear meaning. Slang is out; so are words of more than three syllables (wherever possible); so too, in general, are modern sayings.
·    Strive to write simply, clearly and interestingly, and you will keep your lady keen.
·    If possible, type your first letter or first few letters. If this is not possible (and I realise with many men it is not) write, better still print, very clearly.
·    The woman will find it difficult enough to translate your letter with the help of a translator or a dictionary without the extra burden of contending with writing that's difficult to read.
·    Don't misspell words. Misspelled or misused word 'spell' disaster for her with her dictionary or her translator. She or her translator will be at a loss to know what word to look for - they won't find it because it doesn't even exist!
·    Leave nothing to chance. Remember, if you feel like taking short-cuts put yourself in her shoes and ask, "How's my Russian?" Your realization should put you right back on track.

First impressions are lasting. This cliché was never truer than in your situation.
You've selected a woman on the other side of the world, who, on the surface, attracts you sufficiently to consider her a potential bride - and that's a mighty big attraction. You're trying to make a big impression on her so don't blow it!
Make first impressions count. Most women seeking a husband are well educated and well read. They're impressed by meaty, though easy-to-read letters.
